Survivalists: Review

I was very intrigued by Kashana Cauley's novel Survivalists. I found it in the dystopian category, but as I progressed through the book I kept wondering when the world was going to end. It turns out that the dystopia in this novel is much more localized and personal than the typical "humanity-ending catastrophe" or "takeover by an evil corporation/theocracy". Instead, the carefully planned world of the protagonist falls apart slowly in many ways. As she slowly adapts to the fact that she may never attain her career and personal goals, and starts building a new life, we have to wonder: is this new life what she was meant to be? Is she free from unreasonable expectations and corporate drudgery, or is she on a downward spiral?

One caution for e-book readers, my electronic edition was inexplicably missing the last page. Fortunately my local library had a physical copy so I could read the ending.

Survivalists is a very intriguing novel. While it doesn't fit the typical dystopian mold, it has lots of interesting themes, perspectives, and drama that make it a worthwhile read.
