The Last Soups
I'm revisiting some of my favorite soups as I finish my supply of soups from The Gourmet Soup Kitchen. My original reviews are here.
Himalayan Lentil
This soup is as excellent as I remember. It packs a slight spicy punch, but not at all uncomfortable. It is as colorful as it is delicious, with orange yam pieces, green kale, red tomatoes, and black specks of quinoa.
This soup is both delightfully tasty and very filling. 9/10
Portuguese Spinach And White Bean
Plentiful white beans and a solid amount of spinach make this a hearty soup. Unlike the last time I reviewed this soup, the pizza flavor didn't seem as pronounced.
This is a relatively mild soup, but still good. 5/10
Cuban Black Bean
This soup is dominated by black beans in a thick black broth. It is only slightly spicy.
Overall it is filling and beany. In summary, it was good, but not exciting. 6/10
Thai Coconut Curry
The first thing that strikes you when you see this soup is the bright yellow-orange broth. Hidden in the broth are large chunks of green beans, carrots, mushrooms, and water chestnuts.
The flavor is pleasantly sweet, with a hint of spice. It is really quite good, I think I underestimated it in my first review. 8/10
Nepal Tomato Bisque
This bisque is creamy yet vegetarian, though not strictly vegan due to the presence of honey. It is a red pureed soup containing tomatoes, carrots, and celery.
It is lightly spicy, with a very pleasant taste. The consistency is very light, not overly filling. Croutons pair wonderfully on top. 7/10
Savory Spinach Pea
Savory Spinach Pea is a thick green soup. It consists of pureed spinach, onions, and potatoes, along with whole peas.
This is a delicious soup. It is a little sweet, and a little savory. 8/10
Old World Lentil
This is a hearty, filling soup. A mild broth is packed with lentils and vegetable chunks. Carrots, celery, tomatoes, and spinach create a colorful medley.
The salt and spices are very mild, letting the flavor of fresh vegetables shine.7/10
Country Vegetable
Country Vegetable contains, predictably, tons of vegetables in a light broth.
It is mildly spiced. The vegetables shine through, as with many GSK soups. It has quite the variety, including carrots, green beans, onions, cauliflower, corn, broccoli and more.
Overall it is tasty but mild. 6/10
