Insignia NS-BRDVD3 is Useful and A Good Value

Summary

The Insignia NS-BRDVD3 is a great Netflix Instant Viewing player with 1080p output. It can also play Blu-Ray discs. It is available from Best Buy for around $100. We bought ours thinking we would use it primarily for watching Blu-Ray discs, but we have actually used it to watch Netflix TV shows and movies on-demand much more often.

Netflix Instant Viewing

From the main menu you navigate to Connected/Netflix, and the Netflix interface fills the screen. You can pick from the Netflix categories, or your personalized Instant Queue you set up on the Netflix website.

Watching movies and TV shows is easy and convenient. There is a slight pause while the movie buffers up, with the name of the movie showing on the screen along with a progress bar. Once playing the video quality is slightly degraded at first and improves while you watch to at least DVD quality. You can fast-forward or rewind, which shows thumbnails from various scenes instead of accelerated video. Best of all, if you are interrupted, it remembers where you left off in a show or movie, and which episode you were watching of a TV show, making it very convenient to continue later.
