End of Men: Review

End of Men by Christina Sweeney-Baird is a terrifying, dramatic tale of the planet stricken by an extremely deadly virus that kills only men. This strikes all of the high notes of the pathogenic dystopia. The initial terrifying spread. The attempts to stop it with increasing lockdowns and government control. The breakdown of traditional society. The race to save humankind from extinction.

Yet the unique twist, a virus that only strikes down men, enables numerous fresh and insightful plot lines and situations. Women gain more positions of power and govern with new-found control. In all fields, the women who remain rise to the occasion to solve the worlds problems: scientific, political, and more.

End of Men is a dramatic, engaging tale based on a unique premise. While it covers some bleak times for humanity, its multiple characters and story arcs paint a great picture of the dear and drama gripping the world, making for a strong novel (if very dark, at times).
