Existential Physics: Review
Existential Physics by Sabine Hossenfelder is a non-fiction analysis of how physics relates to key questions about life and human consciousness. The author is an expert physicist who dispassionately explains how various beliefs are compatible or incompatible with the current state of scientific understanding. She covers topics including
- Free will
- The origin of the universe
- The meaning of time
The author uses evidence-based techniques to evaluate theories on these topics. Additionally, she has a willingness to apply scientific diligence to evenly separate sound theories from those without scientific basis. She lets facts and established scientific laws guide her thinking. As a result, she rejects as "incompatible with known science" some theories being put forth by well-known people, scientists and non-scientists alike. I found this objective evaluation refreshing. She also talks about uncertainties and limits of scientific knowledge, which is refershing and adds further credence to her work.
