The Parable of the Sower: Review

The Parable of the Sower follows several individuals trying to find their way in a post-apocalyptic California. Actually the apocalypse is a slow-motion combination of factors resulting in the fall of a suburban Los Angeles gated community. After the fall, the protagonist and allies must make their way toward an uncertain destination, meeting new people along the way.

It becomes a lengthy, grueling journey. New allies bring the promise of a idyllic destination, but in this new world nothing is certain or easy.

This is an interesting near-future "slowpocalypse", in which the planet and society is decaying more slowly and gradually that through a single massive event. The characters and the hope they maintain in these hard times is inspiring. If you are familiar with suburban Los Angeles and Central Coast regions of California, the vividly-described scenery and locations are an added boost.
