The Hobbit: Review

I first read The Hobbit many years ago, and it is still an enjoyable read today. Tolkien has designed an elaborate complex world with exotic creatures, a rich history, and plenty of drama. He weaves grand world-building with an exciting quest for his band of adventurers. Friendships are formed and then tested when they face a fearsome dragon (with an incredible treasure) who has terrified the countryside for decades.

This novel (and the Lord of the Rings trilogy that follows) is one of the defining works of the swords-and-sorcery genre, and influenced generations of novels and games to come.
