Veil: Review
Veil by Jonathan Janz is a fast-paced sci-fi thiller/horror novel. It combines the best elements of many genres. Many novels are said to have three acts, but this one takes that to the limit, with three distinct stories merged into one. It starts off a dystopian horror novel with people disappearing, at first slowly and then quickly, often from the same family, taken by some invisible force. In the second part, the titular veil is lifted, and the cause of the disappearances becomes known, while human society is descending into chaos. In the final, and most exotic sci-fi part, the protagonists take the fight to the enemy. This rapidly moving story covers so much ground it is hard to delve into the later parts without spoilers.
I read through this book quickly, it is definitely a page-turner. About halfway it swings from dystopian to sci-fi, but is thoroughly enjoyable to the end. The subject matter and descriptions may be a bit scary and gory for younger readers, so this is definitely a read primary for adults and older teens.
