Wool: Review

Wool by Hugh Howey is a post-apocalyptic novel about a human society living underground in a 144-floor deep silo. The world outside is toxic and desolate, visible from a huge viewscreen in the cafeteria. The silo is fully self-contained and self-sustaining. Nobody comes and nobody leaves. Generations have lived here and recollection of time before the silo is lost in the mists of time. We follow several characters as they struggle with power dynamics inside this society and seek to uncover the secrets of both the silo itself and the world outside.

I was completely taken in by the world and story of Wool. In many ways it felt like an adult version of The City of Ember. A society living underground, the past largely forgotten, living out generations under strict rules. Wool's world is deeper, darker, and more detailed, a real treat.
