Shift: Review

Spoiler Alert: While most reviews here are spoiler-free, the entire premise of Shift reveals details about Wool that may ruin the intrigue. Please read Wool before reading this review.

Shift by Hugh Howey is the prequel to Wool. It reveals the backstory for Wool: How the silos came to be, what their intended purpose was, and who the mysterious voice at the other end of the IT headset is. Who is in control of the silos? Are those people truly free or are they also trapped? How many silos are there? What happened beyond the silos? This novel includes a huge amount of world-building, while leaving plenty of questions for the third novel, Dust.

Like Wool, I found the world of Shift incredibly intriguing. The gradual reveal through the eyes of characters and their struggles kept my interest all the way through.
